It’s St. Patrick’s Day today, and all over the country, there are the usual trappings of the holiday: huge parties, bars full of patrons swigging green beer, street parades from Boston to —
Uh… oh. Never mind. Let’s try this again.
It’s St. Patrick’s Day today, and all over the country, frustrated would-be partygoers are sitting at home sulking and guzzling the green beer they were able to buy from the local store before it got shut down due to shortages. For those of that community who also love ceol comhthmpeallach (ambient music), tonight’s edition of Spaisteoireacht (Meander) brings you a fun and absorbing survey of great music from the place that the Irish Rovers once called “that great green fun machine that is Ireland.”
Tonight, we’ll give a nod to Sequentonal, the latest member of our close family at RadioSpiral, but to be fair, even though Henry’s lived in Eire for many years, he’s not an Irishman. The rest of our program is devoted to some really fine Irish ambient, much of it pulse-rhythmic or even downright beaty in places. (I found some great Irish noise and dark sludge, too, but I’m not feeling sludgy tonight.) Tune in and hear tunes from billcarson, Ollie Cram, Ventolyn & Becotyde, Sitezen, and a special feature of the gorgeous album Unknown Progressions by Morandi Experiment.
The party starts at 9/8/7/6 PM E/C/M/PDT. We hope to see you in Slack chat or in Second Life to raise a glass with us. Sláinte!
