I’ve been going through some releases from Bump Foot, a Japanese netlabel with a gigantic catalog of material available for free under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license (i.e. OK to redistribute and remix OK, not OK to remove the artist name, sell, or release under a less restrictive license — a famous example would be the two Nine Inch Nails albums The Slip and Ghosts I-IV).

Bump Foot’s catalog is divided into two subcatalogs: Bump (techno and house) and Foot (ambient, IDM, and anything that isn’t Bump). I was so impressed with the offerings on the Foot side of the aisle that I have pulled down over 40 hours of music from dozens of artists and am curating them for our library. The music ranges from very beaty to nicely chilled and drifty, there are a gazillion artists you’ve never heard of, and it’s all free and of surprisingly good quality.

Tonight I’ll feature a variety of tracks from various albums and EPs on the label, as well as a Live Ambient Rant that is of uncertain length… could be five minutes, could be ten, could be thirty, could be sixty. You’ll have to show up and hear it for yourself. I apologize to all the YouTube listeners out there, but if I don’t have a known length, I can’t ask Diana to go through the hassle of setting up to stream the show there. I plan to do a lot more one-hour jams that will be suitable for YouTube in the future… but not tonight unless something changes in the eleventh hour.

I’m firing everything up at 9/8/7/6 PM E/C/M/PDT — See you in Slack, see you in Second Life, or see you in the listener stats!
