Hello everyone! I hope you’re all staying safe and well. I have spent some of my at-home time doing a pretty extensive rebuild of my studio, and have celebrated by doing a bunch of live sets and on-air raids at random times. Tonight, I continue that trend with a two-hour live (mostly-) improvised set. Please tune in and join me; right now the plan is to start and end very chill and drifty, perhaps with something a bit more energetic in the middle… but this one’s more for thinking than dancing.

This improv will be recorded, and if all goes well, will be donated to RadioSpiral’s next Challenge collection, the “WTF Challenge” created by Rebekkah Hilgraves for her show, The Edges Of Dreaming. In that challenge, Rebekkah posted the image included with this post (without Mr. Spiral and the monorail, of course!), with a request that musicians interpret it however they wished and create a musical piece around it. This is what I’ve been working from for the past few of my improvs, developing a particular framework I am calling Spatter Pattern.

Between my last two improvs and tonight’s, I will have plenty to offer Rebekkah, but I would like to add my voice to hers in encouraging folks to rise to this challenge (hey, you’re home, right?) and create music based on this image. It harks back to the songs on the Aphex Twin album Selected Ambient Works Volume II, where each track had a photo rather than a name… a very cool idea, even if it made them hard to put into a digital track list. 🙂

The fun begins at 9/8/7/6 PM E/C/M/PDT. You can listen to the show on the usual channels, chat with us in Slack or in Second Life, and there is a better than even chance that we will be streaming on YouTube as well, featuring Diana Smethurst’s visuals in Second Life and a third avenue for chat. That link won’t go live until just before the show begins, and Diana will post it as a reply to this posting. Come watch me walk the metaphorical wire!
