Tonight, tune in to RadioSpiral at 8/7/6/5 PM E/C/M/PDT for a special 3-hour live event.
Spiral Sands and Gypsy Witch, commonly known in the so-called “real world” as Mike Metlay and Diana Smethurst, have been asked to perform at a special event in Second Life. The organizers heard us play live at the recent Sci Fi Convention for Relay For Life, and were so impressed that they asked if we could play for three hours.
Sure. No problem. No pressure. Sure.
The way we have things planned out is that Diana will relay her live stream into Second Life via Mike’s studio. We’ve done this before; it allows Mike to improvise over Diana’s improvisations, creating the popular “serial duet” known as Chance Meeting.
Due to latency issues, Diana can’t hear what’s going on in real time and must perform solo, in effect; meanwhile, Mike must react to Diana without any feedback. Diana won’t hear the results until after we’re done and Mike sends her the recording. 🙂
Diana will start the evening with a solo Gypsy Witch set. At an appropriate time, Mike will start to add his own music to hers. After they have played together for the second set, Diana will fade out and Mike will finish the evening as Mr. Spiral.
See? Now that wasn’t complicated, was it?
We’ve got some logistical craziness to work out, but lucky you, all you have to do is sit back and listen to the stream. We will not be at RadioSpiral HQ in its booth at the Second Life 17th Birthday Celebration, nor will we be in Slack chat. However, if people would like to congregate and listen to/discuss/make fun of the music, all are welcome!
