Independence
In the USA it’s Independence Day, celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In the UK today, it’s a slightly different celebration, that of the lifting of the stay-at-home orders that we have been under for over 100 days. Life may (or may not) return to a more-normal (whatever that is) tenor. But this year’s events have certainly proven that independence is a nebulous concept. Under lockdown, we have been highly dependent, simultaneously independent of our neighbours and family outside the home. Dependent on internet, our garden for solace and exercise, and our local shops for food. Independent of a barber, my hair has grown out longer than I’ve had it in 30 years. No traveling has freed up the travel budget for other things.Â
Tonight’s Ephemera will have a number of independent vignettes, depending on my level of creativity. I’m expecting a lot of it as I had a month to repair and rework the studio, clean, rewire, re-power the mains (to a battery backup!) and re-arrange parts of it.Â
I hope you can join in and listen.Â
