It is “Mountain Night” tonight on Blue Water Drift Dive on RadioSpiral.net! After a lovely road trip through Colorado and Wyoming last week — the reason there was no show last weekend — I think it’s appropriate to have a show focused on the music of the mountains. As such, every track in tonight’s show has some special reference to the mountains in its title, the album it is on, or in the theme of the music.
We’ll open with a block of mountain-themed pieces from such artists as Kevin Spears, Ombient, The Lovely Moon, Chris Zabriskie, Tony Gerber, and Altus, traveling mostly in the high plains of light ambient music, but with a few delicious side roads thrown in for good measure.
And in the second hour, I’ll be bringing you that masterpiece of mountain music by none other than ambient explorer Thom Brennan: his 1987 masterpiece simply entitled Mountains. One of my favorite albums ever — and a beautiful way to close out the show and send us into the work week well centered and prepared.
And, of course, I’ll be opening the program with a live set, this time dedicated to the crisp and pristine air up there at Monarch Pass. Or the lack thereof.
The show happens tonight at 10p/9p/8p/7p ET/CT/MT/PT (2a UTC), immediately following the end of Tony Gerber’s fantastic Ambient Sundays program, and will last at least 2 hours. As with all RadioSpiral.net programs, the emphasis is on community, so of course there is a live chat.
If you tune in, I hope you’ll stop by and say hello …
