About this Host
Rebekkah’s association with ambient music began with “At Water’s Edge” in 2012 as a bit of a lark. Rebekkah is a longtime radio announcer (from back WAAAAAY before internet radio was available), and asked Joe McMahon, the curator of an ambient radio station’s music library, what it would take to become a host with the station. The answer was “Just express interest.” “Consider it expressed.”
An hour later, a show was born.
Accustomed to four-hour shifts in conventional radio, Rebekkah volunteered to do a four-hour show on Saturdays. Not content merely to spin tracks, the show quickly evolved into a blend of spoken word, music, interviews and live segments. The program explored that grey place between asleep and awake in music, where the basic premise of the show is that music is everywhere, in everything: in the hum of a city, in the pulse of construction machinery or a heartbeat, in footsteps, in laughter, in breath, in the shuffling of an impatient audience… and, like John Cage’s “Four minutes and thirty-three seconds”, all you have to do is sit and listen.
Rebekkah brought her unique and much-loved show to RadioSpiral. After a few years she had to go on hiatus for personal reasons, but occasionally plays live for specials both in person and online, and continues to maintain the station web site. In “real” life, she sings with Pinkish Floyd, a true-to-the-original Pink Floyd tribute project, and is co-lead and co-writer with Blind Phoenix.
Back episodes of the show can be found at The Edges of Dreaming website or via iTunes. Occasionally you’ll also hear Rebekkah broadcasting from live events in conjunction with RadioSpiral, Electro-Music.com, NEEMFest, and Mountain Skies.
