(ʞu¡0ɹʞS) Host of At Water’s Edge
At Water’s Edge began as a bit of a lark, when host Rebekkah Hilgraves, a longtime radio announcer (from back WAAAAAY before internet radio was available) asked Joe McMahon, the curator of an ambient radio station’s music library, what it would take to become a host with the station. The answer was “Just express interest.” “Consider it expressed.”
An hour later, a show was born.
Accustomed to four-hour shifts in conventional radio, Rebekkah volunteered to do a four-hour show on Saturdays. Not content merely to spin tracks, the show quickly evolved into a blend of spoken word, music, interviews and live segments.
Now Rebekkah brings her unique and much-loved show to RadioSpiral, where you can enjoy it every week on Saturday at 12pm. The basic premise of the show is that music is everywhere, in everything: in the hum of a city, in the pulse of construction machinery or a heartbeat, in footsteps, in laughter, in breath, in the shuffling of an impatient audience… and, like John Cage’s “Four minutes and thirty-three seconds”, all you have to do is sit and listen.
Podcasts of the show can be found at the At Water’s Edge website or via iTunes. Occasionally you’ll also hear Rebekkah broadcasting a growing number of live events on RadioSpiral and Electro-Music.com.
